Hearthstone will allow you to save up gold over time for X amount of free packs right at launch, something Overwatch doesn’t let you do. In a lot of ways, it’s hard to make a direct comparison here. I could buy one of them with the duplicate gold I’d gotten from the boxes. I got 14 legendary skins, seven of which were from the new Uprising event. I got enough dust from duplicates to craft one more legendary I got three legendaries out of a possible 22, and only one legendary quest out of nine, a key new element of the expansion.

The differences between that game and this one are a lot more stark, and honestly, despite these big numbers, I don’t think Overwatch is all that far off base here. I am a lot more annoyed by the cost of Hearthstone and its recent expansions. And yes, that means that it’s actually physically impossible to get every event item through free loot boxes before the limited-time event ends.
So, turn all of those crates into hours, and you’ll have your answer. And if you want to translate all of those into hours, according to some averaged calculations, it takes about an hour to earn a loot box through XP.
